A Cookbook Collection is 4 today! Honestly I would have had no clue if it wasn’t for a notification of it on the blog this morning. It dawned on me that I let last years birthday pass me by but in the years before that I had a little giveaway to mark the occasion. So I decided what better way to spend a wet bank holiday than compiling a list of cookbooks.

To celebrate and thank everyone who reads my blog, I am doing another giveaway. Have a look below at the list of cookbooks that I use to influence my own recipes and have referenced in different blog posts. The winner can pick the cookbook of their choice from this list, I will buy a copy and send it out to them.

A Cookbook Collection 1
Just a selection of my Nigella books. Can you tell I’m a fan?!!

The boring Ts & Cs

  • Entries close at midnight on Sunday 18th June 2017 and I’ll draw a winner after that. It is open to anyone worldwide.
  • If I am unable to get a copy of  your chosen book for some reason a suitable substitute will be offered instead. Links below are for information purposes only, the book may not be purchased from these sites or may be a different version than the one shown.

  1. Hi, great idea! Congrats on 4 years. We have a lot of similar books in our colleactions! My fave cookbook is probably Jerusalem and would love to get plenty more, or any of his other books really! Thank you, april O’Gorman

    1. Hi April! Excellent choice, you really can’t go wrong with Ottolenghi’s books they are all wonderful. Personally I think Nopi is a bit more ‘cheffy’ but I still really love it. Good luck 🙂

  2. Happy blog birthday Donna! If I was lucky enough to win I would love Niamh Shields’ book. My favourite one is Persiana and you’re the genius who introduced me to it!

  3. Congratulations Donna! 🙂 My favourite are the Avoca cookbooks. Although my dishes never taste ‘quite’ the same lol. I’d love Rick Stein, for a bit of spice 😉

  4. Congrats Donna! Wow, I know it’s implied by your blog title but that is some collection you have! Tough to give a favourite but I think mine is Rick Stein’s ‘India’. If I had to choose, as tempting as Kelis’ is, I think I’d have to go with Anna del Conte’s ‘Gastronomy of Italy’. I have to ask, which is your own fav???

    1. Thanks Billy! I’m embarrassed to say this is only a fraction of my collection. India is a wonderful book, I regularly cook from it. Good choice with Anna del Conte, it’s a fascinating look at Italian cuisine. Almost more encyclopedia than recipe book.
You can’t make me choose a favourite, it’s like Sophie’s Choice! I’ve a soft spot for Nigella’s How to Eat and Sabrina Ghayour’s Persiana. At the moment though Im using My Street Food Kitchen and Masterchef Street Food of the World a lot.

  5. Congrats Donna! Happy Blog Birthday 😀 That is quite the collection. For me I’d have to pick Diana Henry A Change of Appetite or Ottolenghi’s Jerusalum. I have Plenty & love it.

  6. Happy Birthday acookbookcollection
I love Healthy Appetite by Gordon Ramsey. His risotto is amazing. I’d just love to have a go of My Street Food Kitchen. Right up my ally.

  7. Happy Birthday, Donna! Wow – what a selection! I nearly need to sit down with a glass of wine to choose one! I think it would have to be Rick Stein’s India. I gave a copy away on my own blog a few months back and I was sorry not to be getting it myself! My own favourite is probably Darina Allen’s “Forgotten Skills”. It has loads of recipes (including some from her Cookery Course book) and LOADS of tips for people like me who want to grow veg, keep chickens and make pretty much everything from scratch. It’s a really useful book that I would highly recommend. Enjoy your birthday! x

    1. Thanks June! India is one of my favourites, I constantly dip into it when looking for inspiration. Darina’s book is so much more than a cookbook isn’t it? It’s one of those books that should be used in schools.

  8. Congratulations Donna. I really enjoy your blog. I would love Felicity Cloakes A-Z of Cooking. I love her recipes and this book would be a great addition to my location.

  9. Hi Donna, Happy Bloggin’ Birthday. This is my first visit here on recommendation of a friend. Very glad I did…I’m really enjoying catching up on your past posts. My favourite cookbook is The Collection by Michel Roux (the elder!) Which is evident by the many well fingered lages including his famons and ridiculously easy Tarte Tatin and the beautifully presented Monkfish in puff pastry.
If I am lucky enough to win I would just love a copy of Ottolenghi’s ‘Jerusalem’ purely on the basis that I was too scared to buy it in the first ace (too advanced!!) And I would just love to place one of his dished on the table in front of my astonished friends!!!

    1. Hi Gary. Thank you so much for your kind words. I hope you like the posts coming up on the blog!
You have no idea what you have done – I added The Collection to my wishlist :-). I shouldn’t buy any more books but it looks brilliant!
Jerusalem is a great choice. I wouldn’t be nervous if I were you, if you can tackle Michel Roux’s recipes you’ll have no problem. Ottolenghi’s Nopi cookbook is a bit more cheffy alright but Jerusalem will give you plenty of recipes to add to your repertoire. Good luck!

  10. Well Happy Birthday to your site. Book I would like to win ‘Spice” by Dhruv Baker and my favorite cook book at present is ‘Pastry’ by Michel Roux !!

    1. Thanks for that Paul! Spice is a great book, good choice.
You’re the second person here to mention Michel Roux to me and now I really want to buy one of his books. Maybe I should just treat myself, being my blog birthday and all that 😉

  11. Happy birthday Donna. Congratulations on reaching four years. I certainly recognise some of the titles that you have listed, however, I suspect your experimentation works out much tastier than mine! If I am lucky enough to win, I’d like Gizzi Erskine’s “Healthy Appetite” – it pretty much describes me!

  12. Right now I’ve been loving Breath of a wok, but each time I delve into a cookbook and I find something about it that I love. I don’t own any nigella books so Id like to request one of those. Happiest of birthday’s to you!

    1. Thank you so much Connie! I’m not familiar with that book, I’m off to Google it
I have a real soft spot for Nigella’s books, How to Eat was the book that made me realise food is so much more than fuel.

  13. I took down Nigella’s Domestic Goddess from the Nigella shelf (behind the table, easily accessible) last night and, once again, got lost in it. Great writing, lots of recipes that I’ve made and would like to revisit, more dishes to try out. Same with all her books, they’re food-splattered and cooker-scarred. Also a long time fan of Diana Henry – that shelf is just below the Nigella one!

I’ve got a yearning for Dinner by Melissa Clarke, if the draw should smile upon me.

    1. I love Nigella’s writing so much. Like you, I sit down to read them like novels. My copies of How to Eat and Domestic Goddess and stained and splattered with some pages even stuck together! I only have a few Diana Henry books but I love them and her column. Fingers crossed for Dinner!

  14. Congratulations Donna. I’d love to win Ping Coombes’ Malaysia, mainly because I really enjoyed her cooking on Masterchef but also because I’d love to travel around Malaysia more so this can whet my appetite in more ways than one. My favourite cookbook would be the Australian Women’s Weekly’s beginners Thai cookbook, as it was the first real cookbook that I used besides my mother’s handwritten one.

    1. Ping is still one of my favourite Masterchef contestants ever. It would definitely whet your appetite to travel to Malaysia, do you follow her on Instagram? She was there some months ago and her pics were fab.
I love that your mother had a handwritten cookbook, what a special thing to have!

  15. Happy Birthday! I’d have to pick The Detox Kitchen Bible as I’d love to bring a simple book to college and have some nice healthy meals in between the treats ! I’ve heard great things about Lily as well. Thank you for running this giveaway – great selection of books for all readers !

    1. Hi Emma thanks for your kind words. The Detox Kitchen Bible is a great book. And so much more than recipes; it goes through various ailments and lists foods that should be avoided or consumed more. Good luck!

  16. Fantastic giveaway! I’d love to win the book Jerusalem by Yotam Ottolenghi. 🙂 My favourite cook book is a book of vegetarian Indian cookery – I cannot remember the author at the moment!

    1. Thank you Sally! Jerusalem is certainly a popular choice here.
It is probably a good thing that you didn’t name the book, I’d probably head straight out to buy it! I’m already eyeing up a vegetarian Indian book by Meera Sodha.

  17. A brilliant list of cookbooks and (more than!) several I’d love to try myself, but would love to get Delia’s Complete How To Cook so that I can give my teenage son a cookbook that will set him up for (hopefully) college and beyond, that he can refer back to for years to come. I’ve spent many hours checking Mrs Beeton over the years and it’s so great to have a cookbook that gives you the answers to the basic questions and helps you venture on from there. Congrats on 4 years, keep up the good work.

    1. Thank you Nina!
That’s a wise choice. If I’m cooking something that I’m not 100% sure of, I turn to Delia’s book, Nigella’s How to Eat or Leiths How to Cook and I know I’ll get good advice there. It’s important to have a book that covers the basics, it gives the confidence to try adventurous recipes.

  18. I would absolutely love to own a copy of Deb Perelman’s cookbook Smitten Kitchen! I have been enjoying her recipes online and would love even more!!! And as far as my favorite cookbook, it would have to be Julia Child’s Mastering the art of french cooking, I just love the classics!

    1. Hi Laura! Deb is one of my favourite food writers. She has a new book coming out soon, I can’t wait to see it. Julia Child’s book is a classic. I refer to it often for basics and proper techniques, it’s wonderful.

  19. Hi Donna, Happy blog birthday! Last month my favourite book was Jerusalem but last week it was Nigella’s Kitchen… If I was lucky enough to win I would love Melissa Clarks’ book Dinner.

  20. Darn it! I missed a cookbook giveaway, that’s so unlike me. Congrats to you on 4 years and also the winner. I’m also a Nigella fan especially for chocolate recipes. I have a lot of books from Ballymaloe chefs. I just bought Master It by Rory O’Connell because I think he’s wonderful. I’ve only about 70+ cookbooks in the house:)

    1. It sounds like you have more books than I do! 😉 I do really like Rory O’Connell, I believe he’s a favourite of the students there. Keep an eye out early next June, if I think of it I’ll do another giveaway.
