Campo Viejo Tapas Trail 2015

You may have read my post last year on the Campo Viejo Tapas Trail in Cork. If you didn’t you can read about it here. As it is the same idea, I’m not going to repeat myself too much here. So just a quick post to show the details of the Cork trail this year. Excuse the photo quality, all were taken on my phone.

I did the trail last Wednesday and thankfully we had a nice dry evening for it. We met in The Bodega for 6.30pm and were greeted with a lovely glass of cava. Then after the group got to know each other a bit we were served a glass of the Campo Viejo Rioja Gran Reserva 2009. We got a glass of this lovely wine in each of the four venues so plenty of bang for your buck! In the Bodega we got a mini slider burger with blue cheese and onion marmalade, black pudding, scallop and crispy ham with Highbank Orchard Apple Syrup (yum!) and a whipped beetroot tart with balsamic vinegar. All were delicious. I have to say the beetroot tart had us all a little stumped, it was quite sweet and we were all thinking some sort of strawberry or raspberry dessert. A good idea to sneak some veg into kids diets maybe?!

Next on to Zamora. There was a lovely buzz in the place. I have mentioned it a few times on the blog already as one of my favourite places to eat lunch as I work in the area. Here we had a shot of chilled almond and garlic soup, bruschettas served with pork terrine and one with chorizo and manchego. Some were a bit put off by the strong taste of garlic in the soup but I loved it. But then, I do love a bit/lot of garlic.

After that we went to Arthur Mayne’s. The dishes were similar to those served there last year and so so tasty. We had brushcettas again with three different toppings: beetroot with walnuts, hummus and the last one I think was some sort of red pepper pesto. We also had a bowl of spiced potatoes and each had a serving of chicken and chorizo stew. All good.

We rolled out of there and headed over to finish up in Brick Lane. This is a brand new venue, it only opened less than two weeks ago. I have to say I loved this place, it was very cool and I can’t wait to go back. Dessert here was a divine Nutella cheesecake. I’m not even a big fan of Nutella but I would easily have polished off several of those little pots – so good.

The Tapas Trail is really lovely way to spend an evening. The art and history talks given on the way around the city were different to last years so it was quite fresh and interesting. I hoped to do the Sunday afternoon trail but unfortunately that’s not an option for Cork this year. I should probably have booked the Thursday off work like my much more organised sister did! We met the nicest people and just had a great laugh with them. For €32.49 (incl booking fee) you get all that food, a glass of cava and four servings of Campo Viejo wine. They contact you in davnce to check if anyone in your group has any food allergies or dietary needs. The Dublin trails have finished for this year but there are still dates available for Cork and Galway. I would highly recommend it!

    1. I hope Mrs. Fitz enjoys her trip! Shamefully I still haven’t made it to Iyers – I usually only dine out in Cork for lunch and I don’t like the idea of taking up a table for one at peak times! Will have to stay up after work some evening to visit.
