Simple Strawberry Slice – nothing like a bit of alliteration to excite the nerd in me. I thought it was time for another sweet recipe and with strawberries really at their peak right now, a simple recipe is the best way to show them off.

Having only relatively recently discovered a love of cherries, Black Forest Gateau was not something on my radar. My enduring memory from having tasted it as a child was the overwhelming flavour of kirsch. That is not a good memory.
Yes I am aware that this dessert does not contain either fruit or jelly but I am still calling it a trifle! It’s got layers of cake, booze, custard and cream. So in my book, it’s a trifle.
I don’t think I’m alone in loving this time of year! I actually look forward to the darker evenings and cooking up some comforting food with all the gorgeous autumnal ingredients.
Purists look away now, I had run out of vanilla ice cream so I used cookie dough ice cream! It works 🙂 I nearly forgot to post a chocolate recipe for April! So this one is getting in by the skin of it’s teeth.
